I made this panoramic photograph by stitching together eight photos in Photoshop. I took the photos in Jamaica with my Infrared converted Canon XTi. I also used Photoshop to convert the image from its red muddy status to this. Original image size is 14748 pixels x 3733 pixels which is about 49 inches x 12 inches. Things like this are the reason I'm running out of room on my 1TB hard drive. :)

This lovely bay window is in the master suite. To the left is the kitchen are below and directly behind me is another room the will be turned into the closet, bathroom, and in from the other side of the wall we will build in a laundry room! YAY! This is the room off the kitchen. It will be a dining room! A very large grand dining room! GREAT! This is also the only room on the lower level without that horrible popcorn atrocity. And what is that above the baseboards??? I'm from Phoenix and that doesn't look right to me. I was told that is called a "radiator." We are going to hopefully replace them with some more period appropriate cast iron ornate radiators. So... if you have some you want to donate-- that's awesome possom!

These are the stairs and the foyer and the under the stairs "Harry Potter room". The main entry door is off to the right. The stairs are narrow and we are not quite sure how they got the fridges upstairs, but we should be able to get them down, right???

This is the first room to the left when entering the house. Probably going to be a living room. In this photo you can see the inside of the glass has been painted white... BLAH! Love the bay window though. And what's that you say? POPCORN??? Popcorn ceilings in the year 1905? I don't think so... they weren't that dumb back then. This ceiling was dropped at some point through at least three rooms in the down stairs and I get to raise it back up to the the original height of 10'9"!!!!

This is a photo of the front of the 1905 Queen Anne Victorian/ Four Square mansion. It's being sold by the city along with the property next door for next to nothing. It was turned into a five-plex. There are requirements and the city does want whoever buys it to restore it to a single family dwelling. The yellow monster on the side will be reconverted to a wrap around porch and will no longer be scary! That also means that all the windows will have the stained glass around the edges.

This is the back of the house. The yellow addition we think was a wrap around porch at some point and will be demolished and turned back into a wrap around porch. Original wood slats are still under the current floors. This will uncover the house's original exterior and one of the three exterior doors mentioned below. Yes... we will be losing square footage, but-- totally worth it as far as the restoration will go. The house to the west of the property, which is where I was standing to take this photo, was demolished by the city and the land is being included in the sale of this mansion. YAY for more land! :)

Love this decorative element. It was missing from the other three sides and we may have never known it existed if it weren't for this side. If we can figure out how to replicate it we will need four new ones, but we may have to scrap it from the project.

There will be a total of three exterior doors uncovered in this process. This one currently leads to a covered over wall in the kitchen. Hooray for easy access from the kitchen to the grill!

Why anyone would ever cover over an existing exterior door is beyond me, but to brick it up and to just have doors outside with no knobs and to cover it on the inside... is just silly. The lower door goes to the icky yucky basement and the upper door leads to no where, but when we are done it will go into what is now a bathroom. Don't worry... the bathroom will magically disappear!

stained glass

Much of the stained glass appears to be original to the house, as do most of the windows the stained glass is surrounded by. Some of the lower windows in the house have been replaced with Plexiglas (yay for me........). All glass is single pane and will probably be rebuilt and replaced at some point. The stained glass here, was painted white on the inside of the house (lord only knows why...) and so I'm the lucky one who gets to fix that problem and I actually am highly excited to do so. :)

this photo is a picture of the east side of a four square/victorian mansion on 26th and Jefferson in Ogden. All windows that were built with the house have the stained glass around the edges of the top windows.

nothing like a blood red "toxic" tagging to catch my eye. we pulled over to take photos and the second i jumped out of the truck i was pelted in the face by this dramatic branding. i could not help but wonder what was the word "toxic" doing in the middle of effin no where? and what was that guy thinking?? i stood and looked out over the edge of a hill to see the second most beautifully colored water i have ever seen in real life and could not help but to feel the purity. i say, "hmmm," to the toxicity.

ok... ok... i know i have a new favorite photo allll the time, but this one-- simply beautiful! when i took this photo i was surrounded by fall leaves and rain and it was ty's idea for me to get out the macro lens. i found this box elder bug lying on his back (probably not having the best day) and i was simply drawn to his beautiful colors. this photograph was taken at three times life size.

I thought this area was interesting... I had no other way to compile the whole scene except by doing a panoramic. Given the chance to do it again-- you know what I would change-- I would include more of the tree on the right! Can't believe I didn't get it! But, we were at the top of the mountain and running out of daylight. I had only a few minutes to cross over one more mountain ridge (can you call it a "ridge" if it's not rigid?) to watch the sunset behind some distant mountains from the top of this one. This image is composed of eleven photographs and original panoramic size before cropping out the white space was 18,298 pixels x 4,672 pixels.

As I stated in an earlier post, Moab is about the plants and trees. HAHAHA!!! Yet another picture to prove my point! Without the tree on the left- this picture would have nice colors, but would be as boring as my eighth grade history class. This tree's stark contrast to the colorful background helps to ground the colors and make them more vivid. This panoramic photograph was created in Adobe Photoshop CS3 merging six images. I also used the program to burn the sky a little. Original pano size before cropping out the white areas was 12,038 pixels x 4,644 pixels.

When we went into Moab I was disappointed with the sky. I wanted the same blue skies that I had seen in some of the best photographs of the arches. Occasionally, I would get lucky and grab a hint of blue in some of my shots. When we drove away from this scene and I saw it in the rear view mirror, I told my husband to pull over. I ran out of the truck and up a hill to grab this panoramic shot of the angry skies spilling onto the arid landscape. It was at this point I realized that the fact that I had no blue sky to work with was indeed a challenge sent directly to me from above. (Yup... I soooo just ended a sentence in a preposition...) I have never been known to take photographs the traditional way or to see things like everyone else... why would I start now??? At this point, I decided to change my attitude and realized that I needed to take beautiful non- blue sky photographs to show Moab in its rarer state, a state of vulnerability. This photograph was composed from I think ten or eleven photographs. Original image size is 22,169 pixels x 5,799 before cropping out the white edges.

MOAB IS NOT ABOUT THE ROCKS

I refuse to see Moab, UT the same as the rest of humanity... not my style quite honestly. Throughout the extremely photogenic national park there are many places to pull off the road and enjoy the picturesque scenery and view beautiful rock formations that have taken thousands of years to form, ...... BUT the simple truth of the matter is that without Moab's amazing plantlife, with its drastic change from green to red rocks, and then having gorgeous blue skies to complete the scene, Moab would not be nearly as interesting. Even the dead trees and plants destroyed by fires in the past, or just from the desert conditions, tell a great story of the fragility of such a rocky environment and become the focus of my atteniton-- they become the subject of my photographs and the great skies and rock formations are merely a backdrop.

This is a panoramic image, created from four photographs, was merged by the fantabulous CS3. The panoramic adjustments that Adobe made to the program made a drastic improvement from the CS2 version in the quality of merged photographs, making the areas where the photos merge nearly undetectable. In the next Photoshop I hope to see the same level of improvement in their High Dynamic Range (HDR) photomerging.
